Renault transforms its Flins plant by creating the RE-FACTORY
The Renault Group has announced that its historic plant in Flins will close its doors to make way for RE-FACTORY, Europe’s first circular economy plant dedicated to mobility, with the main objective of achieving a negative CO2 balance by 2030.
The closure of the Flins plant’s assembly activity will take place when the Renault ZOE comes to the end of its life, normally in 2024. Thus, this new RE-FACTORY project will be structured around 4 poles (Re-Trofit, Re-Energy, Re-Cycle, Re-Start), and should enable the employment of more than 3,000 people on the site in 2030.
This project is part of the Group’s transformation strategy unveiled at the end of May. As part of the Group’s commitment, RE-FACTORY will take over the renovation activities of Choisy-le-Roi. Of course, the Group has announced that it will provide support and training for the employees of Flins and Choisy-le-Roi in order to develop new skills and achieve the employment target of 3,000 people on the site by 2030.

Objective Negative CO2 balance in 2030
Renault executives Jean Dominique Senard and Luca de Meo confirmed during a visit to the Yvelines that this historic site of French industry would henceforth be dedicated to the circular economy.
“The stakes involved in the ecological transition and the expectations of our customers have prompted the Renault Group to orient its strategy with strong ambitions in terms of the quality and durability of its products as well as the reduction of its carbon emissions. The stakes linked to the ecological transition and the expectations of our customers have prompted the Renault Group to orient its strategy with strong ambitions in terms of the quality and durability of its products as well as the reduction of its carbon emissions”.
For the Renault Group, the circular economy offers very powerful growth potential. With the creation of RE-FACTORY, the group aims to be one step ahead of the competition.
For the CEO of Renault, Flins will become a reference on a European scale in terms of the circular economy. Re-FACTORY will enable the group to meet the challenges faced today but also tomorrow by players in the mobility and automotive industry.
This plant aims to achieve a negative CO2 balance by 2030, an objective that is fully in line with the Group’s global strategy by combining circular economy, reduction of CO2 emissions, development of employee skills, and the creation of new value-generating activities.
Deployed between 2021 and 2024, RE-FACTORY will rely on a large network of multi-sector partners (start-ups, academic partners, major groups, local authorities, etc.) and will be structured around four business units, whose expertise will support the vehicle’s entire life cycle by acting on the main components of the circular economy (procurement, eco-design, the economy of functionality, maintenance, reuse, battery durability, remanufacturing and recycling).
